Arsenal director of football Raul Sanllehi vows never to make the same mistake again after letting Aaron Ramsey leave for free.

The Welshman will join Juventus for nothing this summer, signing a deal worth a reported £400,000-a-week, after failing to agree fresh terms with the Gunners.

The club are keen to tie star strikers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette down to new deals – and Sanllehi says players will be sold if they refuse to sign new contracts.

He told the club's official website: “At the end of the day, the problem [with Ramsey], the real essence of the problem, was that we had reached the last year of the contract.

“One of our priorities is not to get to the last year of contracts.
“This is the example. This is the reason why.
“If you really want to keep that player, you need to renew him before getting to the last year of the contract because you are putting yourself in a very weak position.
“We cannot get to the last year of the contract. If we cannot get a renewal before that, then we may have to sell.”
