YOUNG Africans will be looking to level points with the Premier League leaders Simba

YOUNG Africans will be looking to level points with the Premier League leaders Simba as they take on Stand United this afternoon at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

It will be an opportunity for the Jangwani-based side to reach 46 points from 21 matches similar to their traditional rivals Simba who have one game in hand against Njombe Mji after the fixture reschedule to pave the way for the team’s preparation for the return CAF Confederation Cup tie against Al Masry to be staged this weekend at Port Said Stadium in Cairo, Egypt.

However, if Yanga manage to register positive results today, the top post on the league summit will be decided on the superior goal difference. The champions recorded a massive 3-0 win last Friday over Kagera Sugar at the National Stadium to move inches closer to catching up the current leaders, Simba who missed a glorious opportunity to climb further on the summit after being held to a 3-3 draw by Stand United at the National Stadium recently.

The return of skipper Thabani Kamusoko was a catalyst towards Yanga’s victory on the day as he revived the missed chemistry at the centre of the pitch between him and Democratic Republic of Congo’s midfielder Papy Tshishimbi. All the three goals came in the last half of the thrilling encounter courtesy of skilfull attacker Ibrahim Ajib who opened up the score sheet for Emmanuel Martin and an own goal by United’s defender Juma Shemvuni which led Yanga to grab the crucial three points from the home turf.

It’s better to have a few viable banks than dozens of failing banks. I will not give any money to failing banks.

Tanzania’s President John Magufuli has ordered the country’s central bank not to bail out any struggling banks as East Africa’s third-largest economy tries to control rising bad debts in the sector.
A spike in non-performing loans over the past two years has hit local bank profits and choked off new lending to the private sector, undermining economic growth in the country.
Magufuli, who has taken on foreign mining firms since coming to power in 2015, said there would be no state help for lenders, accusing them of misappropriating taxpayers’ funds used to bail them out in the past.

“It’s better to have a few viable banks than dozens of failing banks,” he said late on Friday at the inauguration of a new bank branch in northwestern Tanzania.“I will not give any money to failing banks.”

Tanzania has about 40 licensed banks, but the country’s financial services sector is dominated by only a handful of big lenders, such as CRDB Bank.Bad debts as a proportion of the total bank loans rose to 11.7 percent in December 2017, more than twice the maximum target of 5 percent, up from 10.6 percent in June 2017, the latest central bank data showed.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said in January the growth of credit to the private sector had stagnated, partly due to the deteriorating quality of the loans.
It urged Tanzania’s government to tackle the bad debts as a priority to reduce financial sector vulnerabilities and revive credit growth.
The (central) Bank of Tanzania revoked the licences of five “critically undercapitalised” community banks in January to protect financial stability in the country.
The closure of the small banks came after Magufuli ordered the central bank in December to take action against failing financial institutions. Eight such small regional lenders have lost their licences since last year.

The talented midfielder picked up a knee injury whilst on loan with Stevenage.

When Jack Jebb first started to make his name at Arsenal he was immediately compared to Jack Wilshere, and tipped for a big future at Arsenal.
But in recent times things have been difficult for Jebb. He had recently struggled to make his way into the Arsenal under-21 side as other young players seemed to overtake him.

He took the brave step of going out on loan in October, joining Stevenage Borough in League Two. He originally joined on a one-month deal but that was subsequently extended.

French minister asks Google, Facebook, Twitter to investigate, remove terrorist propaganda content from the web

International News
French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve asked the tech giants to cooperate during investigations and immediately remove terrorist propaganda.
San Francisco: The French interior minister said he asked Google, Facebook and Twitter to work directly with French officials during investigations and to immediately remove terrorist propaganda when authorities alert them to it.
"We emphasized that when an investigation is underway we don't want to go through the usual government to government channels, which can take so long," French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said after a meeting Friday with representatives from the US tech giants. "It's important to have full cooperation and quick reaction" he added.
Cazeneuve's one-day visit to San Francisco and Silicon Valley comes weeks after terrorist attacks in Paris left 20 people dead, including three gunmen.
On Jan. 7, two gunmen killed 12 people and injured 11 more during an attack on the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris. A third gunman killed a policewoman Jan. 8 and then killed four more people a day later after taking hostages at a kosher supermarket in Paris. Police killed the three gunmen.
Cazeneuve said he called on the tech companies to join in the fight against terrorist propaganda disseminated on the Internet and to block terrorists' ability to use websites and videos to recruit and indoctrinate new followers.
Twitter and Facebook spokespeople said they do everything they can to stop material that incites violence but didn't say whether they would heed the minister's request for direct cooperation with French authorities.
"We regularly host ministers and other governmental officials from across the world at Facebook, and were happy to welcome Mr. Cazeneuve today," a Facebook spokesperson said. "We work aggressively to ensure that we do not have terrorists or terror groups using the site, and we also remove any content that praises or supports terrorism."
When asked whether Twitter would work closely with French investigators, a spokesperson said their website outlines the guidelines for law enforcement to request information.
"We review all reported content against our rules, which prohibit direct, specific threats of violence against others," the spokesperson wrote in an email.
An email to Google requesting comment was not immediately answered.
The pace of foreign fighters joining the Islamic State and other extremist groups has not slowed and at least 3,400 come from Western nations among 20,000 from around the world, US intelligence officials say.
"I told them we can figure this out together, we can come up with counter-terrorism speech and block these sites that are enticing the most vulnerable members of our society to commit terrorist acts," he said.
France also is pushing to treat jihadi material on the Internet like child porn, a task that before the attacks in Paris was getting scant traction but now seems to have caught the attention of Europe's top security officials.
Cazeneuve said the meeting Friday is a first step in building a strong relationship between the tech companies and the French government. He said he invited them to go to Paris in April to continue the conversation
