TFF to chop off institution clubs

18th December 2012
TFF president Leodegar Tenga
The  Tanzania Football Federation is expected to comply with the world football governing body FIFA in writing off top flight sides owned by single institutions.

FIFA has directed all football associations affiliated to the body globally to chop down all teams that are owned by institutions. In this case an Institution is supposed to won just one team and not more than that so as to have full-fledged competitive leagues.

Institutions that have more than one team in the current premiership flee will be forced to compress into just one football club.

In this case teams from Police, JKT and Sugar processors will be highly affected. JKT or National Service has a huge number of teams competing in the Mainland premiership.

JKT has five teams of Mgambo, Ruvu, Ruvu Shooting and Oljoro while Sugar processors have Mtibwa and Kagera.

The objective of the FUIFA directive is to improve the degree of competition among the teams in the leagues.

Multiple ownership of clubs within one institution has in most cases prompted match fixing particularly in circumstances when one team is on the verge of either winning the title or facing relegation.

So far it has not been proved a case for fixing results in the Mainland premiership but the situation once left to prevail might one day backfire.

The TFF president Leodegar Tenga said there is no short cut to the FUIFA directive and all teams owned by a single institution will have to be merged into one. He declined to comment when the chopping off of the teams will be effected but he acknowledged that the possibility is wide open and will be enforced.

The directive will not affect other premiership teams in the likes of Simba, Yanga, Azam, Toto Africa and Coastal Union.
However, Tanzania prisons and Police teams will be compelled to avoid other teams belonging to their institutions not to target premiership promotion.

TFF information officer, Boniface Wambura
The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) is so far not sure when the African champions Zambia would land in Dar es Salaam ahead of the friendly international later this week.

The TFF information officer, Boniface Wambura, said probably today they might be in a position to know exactly when the team would jet in for the match.

Zambia had earlier confirmed to honour the friendly international against Tanzania national soccer team, Taifa Stars, days before Christmas.

The confirmation has prompted Taifa Stars coach Kim Poulsen to summon his players for a week-long training to gear up for the clash.

The Tanzania-Zambia match will be the second friendly in two months after playing against Kenya last month ahead of the Senior Challenge Cup in Mwanza.

All players for the Taifa Stars have reported and are training under the Danish coach at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam where the match will be played this weekend.

Taifa Stars squad has been highly boosted with the arrival of TP Mazembe’s striking duo of Mbwana Samata and Thomas Ulimwengu.

The duo’s release has in most cases been surrounded by uncertainty as they were not available during the Senior Challenge Cup championship that ended in Kampala on December 8.

The team would miss striker John Bocco, defender Said Nassor and goalkeeper Mwadini Ali for various reasons, including injury.

Otherwise, Wambura said the training goes on well and has been highly boosted by the change of weather that has helped to cool down simmering summer temperatures.

Zambia won the African championship for the first time in history when Gabon and Equatorial Guinea co-hosted the tournament in January through February this year.
The team would be leaving for South Africa where the Nations Cup will be held and they need to plot a title retention bid.

Their friendly in Dar es Salaam might be the last before boarding the flight to Johannesburg for title defence.
